How Can Simply Talking wtih Someone Help?

Sometimes we get stuck in our lives and in order to get un-stuck, we need to process what is going on – our thoughts, our feelings, and events that may have occurred. Talking about things like this with family and friends can be less than ideal for many reasons. We may protect loved ones from certain information because we don’t want to hurt their feelings, get them involved, or get unnecessary feedback. For example, if you are having difficulty in a personal relationship and are trying to figure out what you want and need, involving others can lead to misunderstandings and hard feelings that may continue long after things have been worked out. I find it helpful to process things out for myself before talking with a family member or friend about it. That is where having an uninvolved person to talk with can be beneficial. Talking with our families and friends can be great, they are just not very objective.

When there is movement in our lives, we function better overall.  Picture a body of water. If it sits still for too long, it becomes stagnant and unhealthy. It needs fresh water flowing in and old energy flowing out so we can thrive.

That’s how we are as humans. We need new energy flowing in and old energy flowing out so we can grow.

When we talk to someone about our lives, we see it in a different way. We hear our voices saying it and it moves us in a direction. Sometimes things get a bit more confusing before they get better, but they are moving and growing and we feel empowered because we are owning our story and where we are in life. We gain new perspective. We learn about ourselves.

It is powerful when you can do that with another human being who is there for you, cheering you on. That would be me, the cheerleader! Not in the old school way of just simply being on the sidelines yelling and clapping my hands, but really being out on the field with you and letting you know that you can do this. I get it. I have been on that battlefield before and still am in some ways. I can help you get back up when you fall and be there for you when you score too! That is MY goal.
